Back in June 2015, we sent out an update on the latest Google requirements for websites to be mobile-friendly. We had a really positive response from clients and since then we’ve been pretty busy updating sites to make sure they meet the Google guidelines. A few of our clients also decided the time was right for a complete re-design to keep them at the top of their game in competitive marketplaces. We’re pretty pleased with the results and so are they. Have a look below and check out the new concepts we came up with.

It’s lucky we love what we do here at OTC! The summer here in Alaska has been such a good one that we’ve struggled some days to make it to our computer screens. But nothing should stand in the way of great website design and we’ve found ways to keep the work flowing without missing out on too much of 2015’s epic Alaskan summer. With the recent launch of five brand new websites, (as well as 3 complete re-designs… but more about those next week), we think we’ve managed our work/life balance pretty well. Check out the results below;
RSA Engineering:
We made RSA Engineering a brand new clean, professional and up to date website, with a totally re-organized navigation for ease of use. See their full website here.
Tundra Adventure Charters
OK, we have to admit we’re cheating a little here, we launched Tundra Adventure Charters at the very start of the summer, so technically we worked on it in the springtime. But we’re pretty proud of this one and we wanted to share. Check out the full Tundra website here.
The Ted Stevens Foundation:
We are proud to have been selected by the Ted Stevens Foundation to design and make their new website. The new website has a light, clean, modern design and documents the many contributions and achievements of the late Senator Stevens, as well as being informative about the foundation and what their objectives are. See their full website here.
Nenana Raft Adventures
Nenana is a sister company to the Chugach Outdoor Center website we launched back in December last year. The brief was to make the two websites similar visually and functionally, whilst keeping each company identity separate in terms of colors and branding. See the full website here.
Cabins at Denali
We designed Cabins at Denali a brand new, simple, clean and functional website, that showed off their accommodation options to their best and included a new easy to use reservations system. View the full Cabins at Denali website here.
You have probably already heard of the term mobile-friendly. A couple of months ago Google dropped a bit of a bombshell into the world of internet search. In their ongoing effort to ensure the best experience for the end-user, they made an update to how websites will rank in mobile search by introducing a ‘mobile-friendly’ factor.
Since then, we’ve been pretty busy here at OTC, working on either updating or re-building client’s websites to make sure they meet the standards.
To explain further…
Many factors contribute to how your website shows up in Google search; website structure, keyword density, user experience, content updates, inbound & outbound links, meta tags, the list goes on. In fact there are over 100 variables. But, up until a couple of months ago, mobile-friendly had not been one of these factors. Now it is, and if you want to continue to rank well in Google mobile searches it is imperative that your website meets the guidelines.
What are my options if my site is not mobile-friendly?
Contact OTC to get a full analysis and find out the scale of the work involved.
Some sites may only need a few tweaks and not too many hours on the clock to put them within Google’s guidelines.
Others however may be looking at a re-build, or even an entire new website to bring their business into line with the new requirements.
OTC are here to help!

Just published a great new website for our Fishing Guide friend Jason S. and his business Alaska Salmon Chaser Guide Service. We caught our first Kings with Jason on the Kasilof River over 10 years ago now.
Well, I rambled on about myself a bit, but I would love for you to get to know the talented and amazing Maree a little better, as well. She is quite the superhero, indeed.
Maree really keeps us all on track by creating a blueprint for us to follow before we go into production mode. She gives us clear direction and a detailed overview of each and every project so that we stay organized and on task.
Maree is a key figure in our processes from start to finish. She is our architect – she comes up with ideas on layout, she has a hand in design, and she gives me ideas for writing. She has been around with OTC since 2006, and we want to keep her!
