Is your website mobile-friendly?
You have probably already heard of the term mobile-friendly. A couple of months ago Google dropped a bit of a bombshell into the world of internet search. In their ongoing effort to ensure the best experience for the end-user, they made an update to how websites will rank in mobile search by introducing a ‘mobile-friendly’ factor.
Since then, we’ve been pretty busy here at OTC, working on either updating or re-building client’s websites to make sure they meet the standards.
To explain further…
Many factors contribute to how your website shows up in Google search; website structure, keyword density, user experience, content updates, inbound & outbound links, meta tags, the list goes on. In fact there are over 100 variables. But, up until a couple of months ago, mobile-friendly had not been one of these factors. Now it is, and if you want to continue to rank well in Google mobile searches it is imperative that your website meets the guidelines.
How can I find out if my site is mobile-friendly?
You can visit the Google Mobile-Friendly Test Page, input your URL and Google will give you a report.
What are my options if my site is not mobile-friendly?
Contact OTC to get a full analysis and find out the scale of the work involved.
Some sites may only need a few tweaks and not too many hours on the clock to put them within Google’s guidelines.
Others however may be looking at a re-build, or even an entire new website to bring their business into line with the new requirements.
