Adult Counseling

Entering into a relationship with a counselor is an important decision made with the hope and faith that we can learn to feel better and live happier, healthier lives.  I believe my role as a counselor is to assist you in reconnecting with strengths you already possess, help you develop new skills and techniques that empower you to live your dreams, and facilitate the opportunity for your to identify the process your will need to create in order to meet your goals.

I enjoy working with adult clients on a variety of issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, healthy relationships, self-worth, identity, trauma, and major life transitions.

As an eclectic counselor I use a variety of approaches that apply to my client’s current needs.

Examples of some (not all) approaches I use are:

·  Family Systems theories

·  Psychodynamic approaches

·  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

·  Motivational Interviewing

·  Education on human development

·  Assessment of spiritual and cultural needs

·  Art Therapy

·  Narrative Therapy

·  Mindfulness and Relaxation

·  Emotional Awareness

· Distress Tolerance (and other Dialectical Behavior Therapy)

When you make an initial intake appointment with me, we are evaluating together if we can move into a client-counselor relationship with one another. By the end of that session, we will have both made a decision about whether we will proceed. Assuming we do continue to work together, this initial intake appointment is an opportunity for me to provide an assessment, understand your goals for therapy, and create a treatment plan that speaks to your needs.
